Tricnit Mills

While attending the Temple Harvest Fair, the Historical Society was handing out old documents and flyers in exchanged for donations. They explained they didn't have room to keep them and many were duplicates.

Among the issues were copies of a 1973 bicentennial magazine for Jaffrey, NH (1773-1973). Inside I found some photos of Tricnit Mills which was in operation in New Ipswich until 1978.

The plant was located on Tenney Road. It burnt to the ground on August 5, 1978. The town and fire chief were named as defendants in two suits brought on by the Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance Company. Aetna claimed that the fire department was negligent in their duties which led to a total loss. Later the suits were dropped.

At the time I was working in Westminster, MA for Digital Equipment Corporation. I carpooled with several guys whose wives worked the sewing machines at the mill.

After the fire most of the equipment showed up at the dump. I grabbed a lot of the iron racks that held the spools for the mill. I used them for outside tables for plants and all kinds of projects. They have held up well for  40 years. I lashed some of the them together to make compost bins.
