New Ipswich Memorial Day - 2013

Image
We celebrate Memorial Day the Sunday before the official holiday. As in years past there is a morning ceremony at the Smithville Cemetery followed in the afternoon with a much larger parade. Here are some photos of the both events. Starting with Coffee and Nisu at Peter and BJ Aho's home. In attendance WWII veterans Eddy Aho and Peter Grippardi Then to Smithville Cemetery. Decorating the Souhegan river and 21 gun salute Mascenic Band member Ariana Holmes and two girls decorate the waters of the Souhegan to honor those lost at sea World War II veterans, Eddie Aho, Peter Grippardi and Francis Dorn

Spring Flowers

Winter seems to last too long and spring is too short here in New Hampshire. Still it is great to see those daffodils appear. However one of the strangest sites are my extra-terrestial Japanese Butterbur blossoms. For a flower that is sublime, you cannot beat the Star Magnolia

Another Squirrel Deterrent Gone Awry

Image
In my never ending quest to keep squirrels from spending the day eating every last sunflower seed I've tried many non-lethal approaches. I thought the fence charger was the ultimate, but the little bastards ran right over the charged copper plate. I think I saw them wearing rubber boots. My latest idea was introducing sound to startle them. It worked for a while, then one brave squirrel realized that it was just noise. After that they just mocked me. Anyway I was proud of my design. I used an ancient bank alarm bell, a "wall-wart" transformer, a remote control for Christmas lights and a weather proof enclosure.
