UPDATED POST I came across this old blog post from 2014. There are some changes that have taken place since the initial posting. The Green Center will have been in operation for 13 years in September 2022. It is still as popular as when it started, the the inventory is just as interesting as it was in the early days. Because of Covid some changes were made to the schedule that actually make it a more pleasant shopping experience. On the Saturdays where the center is open there are two distinct time slots Shopping Only - 9AM - 12 NOON  Donations Only - 1 PM - 3 PM This cuts down on the congestion at the door which was a problem even before Covid. Also it gives the volunteers time to move items around without bumping into patrons. "Excuse me" was the phrase I always found myself saying before the change. I often think how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place. I took the opportunity over the last couple of days to visit friends and walk along trails that they have created on their properties. The biggest treat for me was seeing the damsel flies cavorting on rocks and plants near the Souhegan River. All these photos were taken in Smithville, New Ipswich. It only makes sense that a bus that traveled to the Burning Man Festival would end up in a field in New Ipswich. Photo taken with an infrared filter (because I can). We couldn't ask for a more perfect Summer Solstice. Plenty of sun, nice clouds and warm temperatures.I took a  quick tour around town with a camera which I had converted to be sensitive to infrared (790nm). It has the effect of bringing out cloud details and making foliage appear white. I've created a new page for my website featuring photos of nature. I realized that this subject forms the bulk of my photography. In 1923, Marion Buck of New Ipswich and Frank Robbins of Rindge planned a 21 mile hiking trail from Mount Watatic in Ashburnham, MA to Pack Monadnock in Greenfield, NH. They named the trail WA-PACK using the first syllables of the mountain peaks. To celebrate the 90th birthday of the trail in 2013, the group Friends of the Wapack held a series of guided hikes along different parts of the trail. I attended the one held on June 1st which started at cellar hole of the Wapack Lodge which was destroyed by lightning in 1993.

The rain held off and it was too cool for the black flies which made for ideal weather conditions for the annual Fishing Derby held at the pond at the Village Cemetery on Main Street.
