New Ipswich Green Center (A Success Story)

UPDATED POST

I came across this old blog post from 2014. There are some changes that have taken place since the initial posting. The Green Center will have been in operation for 13 years in September 2022. It is still as popular as when it started, the the inventory is just as interesting as it was in the early days.

Because of Covid some changes were made to the schedule that actually make it a more pleasant shopping experience. On the Saturdays where the center is open there are two distinct time slots

  • Shopping Only - 9AM - 12 NOON
  • Donations Only - 1 PM - 3 PM
This cuts down on the congestion at the door which was a problem even before Covid. Also it gives the volunteers time to move items around without bumping into patrons. "Excuse me" was the phrase I always found myself saying before the change.

The schedule is now posted on the Life in New Ipswich  Facebook Group page. A printed copy is also available as well as a posting on the NI Town Office signboard.

The Original 2014 posting follows

The New Ipswich Green Center has been in existence for over 5 years. Initially it was housed in the infamous Building 2 until toxic mold forced it's relocation.

It is a place residents of Greenville and New Ipswich can bring their unused usable household items, clothing, tools, books, CDs and toys to be reused by others. There is a constant exchange of items and the center is a great place to "shop'. Items are free although donations are accepted. The building is heated in the winter and fuel is expensive.

Some items are not accepted such as televisions, underwear, computers, pillows and upholstered furniture. Some large items may not be accepted due to space consideration. The volunteers make the determination.

Please check the town calendar for the hours, it is NOT open every week. I have also posted the times on this blog's calendar page.

Last year on the coldest days it was closed for the comfort of the volunteers. Volunteers are always welcome, there is a tremendous amount of work to do to keep the place organized. If the center is closed, please do not leave donations outside, that will only make mess.

Residents of New Ipswich and Greenville, if you not visited the center, please stop by on a Saturday and check it out (9am to 12 Noon). We do ask for identification. Other towns should adopt a similar program since this benefits both the environment and the pocket book.
