Look What I Saw at the Green Center

Image
It was a slow and steady day at the Green Center, but we did get a nice collection of new items.  This is also the opening day of the Farmers Market, now located at 661 Turnpike Road. You can shop for food and then stop in and browse the Green Center. It may just be me, but I find these things creepy. However we now have our first Hasbro Furby Be a Rock Star with our earrings How many time have you gone to a restaurant and not wanted to place your purse on the floor? We have a holder for the table. An exclusive item at the Green Center. Mmm, what's cooking? A plastic turkey on the BBQ PLEASE!! Take this away from us. We move it every week. We know it is pink but you can paint it teal. Apparently this is a popular item with future veterinarians. I can't keep up with trends for kids. Angry Birds? We have them Tasteful art Name a holiday and we have the goods

Look What I Missed Posting from the Green Center

I'm a complete klutz when it comes to using a smart phone. Today I discovered some photos I had taken on March 3, 2018 at the Green Center. They were buried on an application called "Keep" on the phone. "Keep" is an ironic term since they became "Lost". However here for your viewing pleasure are some of the treasures from March. In March we had a number of prom dresses Right out of a 1940 Hollywood movie Speaking of the 1940s, we had a full bottle of beer found in a barn circa 1940. We declined trying it. Homesteading in the Canadian Wilderness Odd collection of felt stickers I always like to see dolls, they make great photo subjects

Betty Wilson

Image
I was saddened to hear that Betty Wilson had passed away.  I always enjoyed singing Louvin Brothers songs with her at our music jams in Gardner. Thoughts and prayers to Lew, friends and relatives. I will miss hearing her sing. Betty (center) was one of the Bluegrass Police Lew and Betty were married for 61 years. I loved their harmonies.

Wapack Lodge

Image
In 1923, Marion Buck of New Ipswich and Frank Robbins of Rindge planned a 21 mile hiking trail from Mount Watatic in Ashburnham, MA to Pack Monadnock in Greenfield, NH. They named the trail WA-PACK using the first syllables of the mountain peaks. To celebrate the 90th birthday of the trail in 2013, the group Friends of the Wapack held a series of guided hikes along different parts of the trail. I attended the one held on June 1st which started at cellar hole of the Wapack Lodge which was destroyed by lightning in 1993.

The Verse in the Window

Image
Woody Meiszner lives in the Matthias Wilson house which was built in 1833. One day while cleaning the windows he notices a faint inscription in the window pane in French. It was extremely difficult to read, so we tried placing a piece of black paper behind it. One might speculate it was done with a cut diamond, a mystery from the past. Matthias Wilson built this home in 1833 From the New Ipswich Historical Society Collection The Wilson house is now occupied by Woody Meiszner, Photo taken Feb 2018 Woody's Abyssinian took some interest in my presence, however was of no assistance in translating the text
