Penny Postcards - New Ipswich

The New Ipswich Historical Society has a number of postcards in their collection. In most cases they were used to tell family and friends of a safe arrival and future departure plans. It was probably the only way to communicate without a smart phone and Facebook.

There are exceptions, such as the message about smoke from forest fires that was shared in another post. This postcard from August 1908 includes the timeless phrase "Wish you were here".

Dear Burt, Pam and I going to climb Mount Monadnock in morning. We go to Temple tomorrow and having  a fine time wish you were here with your wife Hannah(?)

In my own collection of postcards are a few generic cute {your town here} messages. These date from 1913.
